Stay up-to-date on what is happening in the market, grow your network, and get involved
Why join a Legal Tech Organization / Community?
- You can learn about legal tech software vendors / products, discuss developments in the legal technology market, and connect with others - at law firms / legal departments / thought leaders - that are interested in legal tech
What kinds of things can you do?
- Almost all of these organizations will allow you to join and volunteer to help run programs
Some of the more established organizations will require you to go through an application and interview process to be admitted to a volunteering role, and many organizations can require a significant time commitment if you are selected.
- Most host in-person and virtual events that range from webinars (e.g. on a new product) to large conferences with professionally programmed seminars
- Sometimes they also organize local meet-ups to foster networking and collaboration
- Some run learning and development programs, which members pay to attend
What Organizations/Communities Are Out There?
- International Legal Technology Association (ILTA)
- Global Legal Tech Hub (GLTH)
- Legal Value Network (LVN)
- Asia-Pacific Legal Innovation and Technology Association (ALITA)
- Australian Legal Technology Association (ALTA)
- European Legal Technology Association (ELTA)
- UK Legal Technology Association (UKLTA)
How much does it cost?
- Some of these organizations will offer a free membership to individuals
- Such membership plans are generally limited in what content an individual can access and what an individual can do within the organization's portal, with the option to pay for further access
- You will also be limited in what participation opportunities will be open to you and what events you can attend, both virtual and in-person
While these plans are limited, they are great introduction to any organization to learn whether the initiatives and programming is right for you. We would encourage you to try these plans from some of the global organizations and an organization in your region to see which one, or a combination of memberships, is right for you
- Most offer firm/company-wide paid memberships, granting enhanced access to the majority of the organization's content and access to events and participation opportunities
- These memberships will still require payment to attend the larger conferences and learning events, but at a member discount
- Membership dues are usually based on the size of the firm/company (lawyer head-count)
- Legal tech vendors will also pay to be granted access to the organization's membership
- This will take form of sponsoring events and creating content for the organization's portal, and they will speak at the larger conferences
- These organization's will host product demonstrations and round table conversations with vendors and their users
